2008Production artist in residence
For Imaginasium production artist Kelley Rudolph, commercial art may pay the bills, but it’s fine art that feeds the soul. With paintbrush in hand and landscapes at heart, this uber-talented production guru has been putting her talents to canvas since the tender age of eight. Most recently, Kelley’s skills paid off at the Spring Art Festival, sponsored by Green Bay Arts Unlimited through March and hosted by The Art Garage studios and gallery. Her “Country Trio,” a three-landscape study rendered in pastels, earned a judge’s Honorable Mention. The painting was one of a pair of Kelley’s submissions, and part of an exhibit consisting of approximately 150 pieces from area artists. “I was thoroughly amazed,” Kelley said of her recognition. “This was only the third competitive show I’ve entered and I didn’t think I’d fare as well as I did.” Kelley’s focus remains largely on pastels, but she’s also been working to redefine and expand her range, including adding more graphite and oil paints to her repertoire. By far, Kelley said the toughest part of pursuing new avenues in her art was not in learning new techniques, but in learning to trust herself. “Painting really requires you to bare your personal side, and that’s not always so easy to do — especially when you know your work is going to be judged by others.” Kelley may not be one of the old masters yet, but she’s definitely got the right ideas.
